Although we are still in the midst of a pandemic, we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel as vaccines become more widely available. While we all have experienced different challenges this past year, we are starting to see a more positive outlook across our state.
On average, Virginians are feeling more optimistic than the rest of the country about the future of the economy, according to a recent poll from the Roanoke College Institute for Policy and Opinion Research. We are also seeing an increase in jobs. Virginia’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.3 percent in January with the addition of 14,100 jobs.

Thomas F. Farrell II notified the company in late March that he plans to retire from the board of directors at the end of his term. Farrell is currently the board’s chairman. See full announcement here.
John T. Casteen III has decided to not retire from the board of directors at the request of the board in light of Farrell’s pending retirement. Casteen will be a nominee for election to the board at the company’s 2021 annual shareholders meeting.

George Mason University’s research and education center focused on government contracting has added 13 new members to its advisory board along with 13 additions to the affiliated faculty roster.
The Center for Government Contracting made the board appointments to bring in a full range of industry leaders from GovCon companies of all sizes that work with federal agencies or support other contractors, GMU said March 10.
One of those new board appointments comes directly form the Defense Department in John Tenaglia, principal director of defense contracting and pricing in the office of DOD’s undersecretary for acquisition and sustainment.

Virtual Recruitment for Greek Life has been one of the many ways sororities and Fraternities have adapted to COVID-19. Reporter Keagan Hughes interviewed, Alexandra Benc, Chapter President of Alpha Phi, Shelby Baker, a sophomore sister in Zeta Tau Alpha, Bridgette Shallow, a junior in Alpha Delta Pi, and Charles Weismann, a Brother in Sigma Nu.
Alexandra Benc went into detail about how although the chapter bonding between sisters was lost because they could not physically meet in person, they still found other ways to make sure that the PNMS, potential new members, would still get that intimate and close bonds with the sisters.
