Manitoba public health officials reported 180 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday as well as an outbreak in a hospital in a community in northern Manitoba which has seen a massive spike in new cases recently. The total number of lab-confirmed cases is now 27,322.
The Northern health region continues to be hard hit by the virus, including in Lynn Lake, Thompson and Garden Hill First Nation, leading to a disproportionate number of cases relative to population size.

A rally planned for Saturday in Steinbach has not received support from the community.
Both Steinbach s mayor and Chamber of Commerce voiced concerns leading up to the Jan. 16 rally, organized by the Hugs Over Masks group.
The group says its weekend demonstration is not an anti-mask rally and will feature speakers from religious, business, and medical backgrounds.

WINNIPEG The Mayor of Steinbach is asking the organizers of a rally against COVID-19 restrictions in Manitoba to reconsider holding their event in the community. Mayor Earl Funk said he was alerted earlier this week to the rally organized by Hugs Over Masks, which is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. outside of Steinbach City Hall. “I want everyone to have freedom of speech and their opportunity to speak and the opportunity to get their voice out there, but I do feel a little perplexed about this,” Funk said on Friday. “We are looking at a group of organizers from outside our city, they have been there before and they got their point across. I don’t understand why they need to come back again.
