The Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero and 139 other passengers onboard Max Air flight yesterday escaped death when their flight that took off from the Aminu Kano International Airport (AKIA), Kano was hit by a bird, which forced one of the two-engine aircraft to malfunction, prompting the pilot to return to base.
THISDAY learnt that the aircraft, a Boeing 737 aircraft with the registration number: 5N: BBM had departed Kano for Abuja airport at 1:21pm, but made an air return barely nine minutes later when three blades in one of the engines were damaged by birds on take-off at the airport.

The House of Representatives has ordered its committee on Aviation to investigate Maxi Air and Aero Contractors over recent accidents involving their planes.
According to a motion moved by Umar Bala from Kano State, Max Air flight carrying 140 passengers including the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero had an engine failure on Tuesday.
He explained that Aero Contractors flight also suffered a bird strike that almost led to a crash involving 90 passengers.
The lawmaker said that “despite the echoing of a large strange sound at the point of take-off by the Max aircraft the pilot and his crew dismissed any feeling of insecurity and took off.
Mr Harish Manwani, Max Air Executive Director, made the apology during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja. The executive director, who lauded the airline s experts for their promptness to effect standard practice in aviation to tackle the incident, added that such move averted other likely incidents. The incident that happened yesterday was on take-off of our Boeing 737 aircraft from Kano carrying among the distinguished passengers on board were the Emir of Kano, his entourage and top officials of Max Air Management. As the aircraft took off, one of the engines experienced a bird strike, which called for the Captain to carefully bring back the aircraft to Kano airport.
Reps to probe Max Air, Aero contractors over safety concerns

The
House of Representatives has resolved to investigate allegations of negligence against two local airlines, Max Air and Aero Contractors.
The decision to investigate the two airlines followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Bala Umar (APC, Kano), on Wednesday.
In his motion, Mr Umar said the Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero and 139 others escaped death while flying Max Air on Tuesday from Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano to Nnamdi Azikwe Airport, Abuja due to reported engine failure.
He stated that 90 people also escaped crash while on Aero Contractors.
