Under the Northern Ireland Protocol, NI will operate under EU rules. This means that Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) set by the European Commission must be used for products authorised in NI.
You must submit the same application and all procedurally related communications that you provide to the EU to us via VMDS or Eudralink within 2 working days.
Maximum Residue Limits in GB
MRLs listed in Commission Regulation (EC) 37/2010 or published in the Official Journal prior to 31 December 2020 will continue to have effect in GB and included on the list of GB approved MRLs from 1 January 2021.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) today released its annual call for comment on proposed changes to Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for some agricultural and veterinary chemicals in food.
FSANZ CEO Mark Booth said requests to align around 130 chemicals with international limits set by the Codex Alimentarius Commission and other international food standards agencies are being considered.
‘This includes changes requested by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority to align with revised chemical uses in Australia.
‘For the first time we implemented a new process to routinely consider MRLs adopted by Codex in 2019 without the need for separate requests from stakeholders.
About 20 per cent to 40 per cent of the world’s potential crop production is lost annually to pests and diseases, necessitating the use of pesticides. Globally, over two million tonnes of over 1,000 various pesticides are used annually.
In Kenya, pesticides have been used for over 90 years with 17,803 tonnes imported in 2018 up from 12,233 tonnes in 2014.
