QUESTION POSED BY SENATOR WADE MARK TO THE MINISTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY
In light of recent reports that eight (8) prison officers and four (4) inmates have tested positive for COVID-19, can the Minister indicate what measures are being taken to safeguard both prison officers and inmates?
RESPONSE
Madam President, at the moment there are 3,802 inmates in the system. This system consists of 10 facilities (9 in Trinidad and 1 in Tobago).
Thankfully at present, we report a mere 8 COVID positive inmates and 17 COVID positive officers. The 8 inmates are in separate facilities from the general population at the Eastern Correctional and Rehabilitation Center (ECRC).
They are managed by the officers who are appropriately clad in full PPE gear.
Police: Sean Luke’s body was decomposing in canefield
Sean Luke. -
SEAN LUKE’S body was in an advanced state of decomposition when it was found by police and there were maggots on the face.
His body was naked and liquid was leaking from the eyes and nose.
That was the evidence of two police officers who formed part of the police’s investigative team when the six-year-old’s body was found on March 28, 2006.
A tattered-looking pair of underpants and a pair of shorts were also tendered into evidence on the second day of the judge-only trial of the two men charged with Luke’s murder.
