Decongestion Begins In Accra - Minister Leads Charge - PHOTOS

  The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Henry Quartey, yesterday set his ‘Make Accra Work’ plan into action by storming the central business district (CBD) to clear off traders who had illegally occupied the pavements. The exercise, undertaken by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), with support from the security agencies, was to get rid of structures on the shoulders of roads, clear traders who obstruct pedestrian movement off the pavements and allow for the free flow of vehicular traffic. Traders in various items, from food to jewellery, had occupied the pavements. Mr Quartey, accompanied by some military men and policemen, stormed the CBD with a bulldozer for the exercise.

Traders Flow Onto Pavements - Graphic Road, CMB Enclave Worst Affected

  Traders in markets within the central business district (CBD) of Accra have extended their activities towards the Graphic Road, taking over the pavements from the Graphic Press and the inner perimeter around the Beyeeman Cold Store. Some traders with secure trading areas within designated parts of the metropolis and those without are vigorously trading at unauthorised locations on the Graphic Road. As part of the Daily Graphic’s national sanitation campaign effort, it observed over a period of three days this week that traders and hawkers had taken over pedestrian walkways in the markets, the frontages of the Greater Accra Regional Fire Service at Makola, the Accra Central Police Station and the Republic House branch of the GCB Bank.

Sanitation Minister Applauds Zoomlion On Ongoing Works On Kpong Landfill Site

  The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has commended the contractor,  Zoomlion Ghana Limited, for good work done on the Kpong de-commissioning and re-engineering landfill site. During a working visit to the site on Friday April, 9 2021, she said you have not disappointed us, and we are impressed with the level of work. The Kpong decommision and re- engineering landfill site, which covers about 47 acres of land, when completed will be turned into a recreational facilities. The minister therefore called for support from Ghanaians for the government as it embarks on human intervention projects such as this. She acknowledged the president,  Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, for prioritizing water and sanitation in his government.
