Economic Fighters League slams police for stopping NDC, others from protesting The Economic Fighters League has taken a swipe at the Greater Accra Regional Police Command for securing a court order to ban the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from further protests. The youth pressure group that has championed several initiatives to educate the youth on the power they wield including the ‘No Vote’ campaign, believes the action by the police is an infringement on the rights of the party and its members. A statement issued by the group and signed by Hardi Yakubu, Fighter General, said: “We remain non-partisan and committed to demolishing a system that is clearly designed to serve an elite few. That said, when the inalienable rights of the People are abused, we must and will always speak and act, out of loyalty to Ghana, and not party.

Two Policemen, civilians on bail over sale of weapons The Court ordered that the sureties should be public servants earning not less than GHC3,000.00. General Lance Corporals Emmanuel Yaw Abusah, and Sulemana Yusif, both Police officers, pleaded not guilty to abetment of crime. Their accomplices Samed Yusif Abdul alias ‘‘Matata’’ and Francis Dekpor also pleaded not guilty to possession of arms and ammunitions without lawful authority. The four will make their next appearance on January 5, 2021. Police Inspector Eric Pobee told the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh that the complainants are Policemen with the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.

Police arrest 26 for unlawful demonstration

+ The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested 26 people for unlawfully demonstrating at the Electoral Commission (EC) Headquarters. The arrested persons, 15 males and 11 females, were among protesters who thronged major streets in Accra to reaffirm their displeasure in the general election results declaration by the Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensa. A similar demonstration took place in the Ketu South Constituency. A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mrs Effia Tenge, said they were engaged in unlawful acts such as burning of tyres, pelting of stones and causing heavy vehicular traffic congestion.

Motorway menace on increase

+ Indiscipline on the country’s only motorway, the Accra-Tema Motorway, is brewing danger for motorists who ply the 19-kilometre (km) expressway on a daily basis. A Daily Graphic team that monitored activities on the road that most befits the description of highway for about five hours last Wednesday observed that the illegal activities along the 19-kilometre motorway were mainly perpetrated by drivers, slum dwellers, tricycle riders, farmers and herdsmen. The dangers include pedestrian and livestock knockdowns, car crashes and other accidents thatlead to the loss of lives or injury to drivers, passengers and pedestrians. The team also observed that there were growing slums and shanty towns along the highway whose dwellers had converted the bare land serving as buffer between the motorway and the settlements to vegetable farms, with others herding cattle at different sections of the motorway.

Simbox, international voice call refilling fraudsters busted in collaborative efforts The Greater Accra Regional Police Command together with the National Communications Authority (NCA) and Kelni GVG on Thursday, 26th November, 2020 intercepted the operations of an International Voice Call Refilling business, an illegal phenomenon similar to SIM-boxing. Chairman of the Port Facility Security Coordinating Committee and Harbour Master for the Tema Port, Capt. Francis Kwesi Micah, expressed pleasure at the success of the exercise which enabled the allied security group know their capabilities in containing some of the situations. He stressed the need for improved communication skills among the agencies. Some of their numbers were being used to carry out international call refilling fraud and further investigations by the joint NCA/ Kelni GVG/Ghana Police team confirmed the illegal operations at the said location.
