Events STRATEGIC WORKSHOP EVENT GGA West Africa held its end-of-year strategic stakeholder workshop at the Paragon (Osu-Accra) on Monday 9 November. The meeting was used to review two of our recent research projects on COVID -19, namely ‘How urban poverty impacted the implementation of safety protocols and government directive’ and “Gentrification and its impact on inclusive city development’. The meeting was also used to discuss GGA-West Africa’s work going forward and the change in focus of the centre. We also raised the need for our partners to ensure our joint work only promotes credible and fact-based research and media reportage.

Publications Publications Introductory Write-Up for Report on “Gentrification and Inclusive City Development in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA)”   In the rapidly urbanising global south, and across much of the world, cities are the centres of innovation, job creation and economic development. These developments make cities net recipients of migrants, resulting in continuous urbanisation and a marked modification in the housing structure.   Gentrification is a product of these developments. Although there is a significant body of knowledge acclaiming the global nature of gentrification, urban research commentaries have generally avoided the temptation to generalise its effects, instead honing in on the complexities of the phenomenon and cautioning against oversimplification.

Ghana in talks with manufacturers for more covid-19 vaccines – Okoe Boye

2nd batch of COVID-19 vaccines arriving in Ghana in 2 weeks

705 The Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr Anthony Nsiah Asare says Ghana will take delivery of the second batch of COVID-19 vaccines within the next two weeks. He said the government will be buying the vaccines through direct sources, adding that the government already has a budget in place to purchase these vaccines. He made this known in a radio interview on Accra based Joy FM, during its Saturday Newsfile programme February 27, 2021. “The vaccines will be coming in a week or two. It may be a combination of what the government is buying directly and what we have also from the COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access Facility (COVAX). We are at a very advanced stage to get the one the government is buying as well as the one coming from the COVAX facility”, he stated.
