Greater Albany Public Schools students are still scheduled to begin returning to in-person instruction on March 29 but nothing will look the same as it used to and time at schools will still be limited.Â
On Monday, Assistant Superintendent Lisa Harlan updated the school board on the district s plan to begin phasing students back into classrooms but noted state requirements will still limit the school day.
Currently, about 350 GAPS students are receiving instruction under limited in-person instruction. That instruction will stop on March 16 to give the transportation department two weeks to map out new routes for when hybrid learning begins.Â

On Wednesday, Sweet Home School District Superintendent Tom Yahraes hit send on an email to parents outlining the plan to bring students back to classrooms and warning that school will not be the same.Â
Since April, most students have been barred from in-person instruction by state metrics surrounding the spread of COVID-19. In December, Gov. Kate Brown announced those metrics would be altered on Jan. 19 and would become advisory rather than mandatory, placing the decision about reopening squarely in local districts.Â
And while the decision is local, the circumstances surrounding it are still shaped by state mandates. Students must wear face coverings, practice social distancing and classes must be smaller.Â
Redmond School District chooses bond projects management firm
REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) The Redmond School District said Monday it has selected HMK Company to serve as the bond project management firm for its 2020 bond projects.
HMK, which has offices in Medford, Albany and Bend, has more than 25 years of experience in executing large-scale bond projects, and has worked with 98 school districts around Oregon. Most recently, the firm has worked with the Ashland School District, the Greater Albany Public Schools and the Dayton School District.
The company will oversee and manage the bidding, planning and construction of bond projects, as well as master scheduling and other oversight.
