The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, the league that houses the Strathroy Rockets has decided to cancel the 2020-21 season. In a statement released Monday the league says there was never ending hope that it would be able to somehow manage a safe and responsible 2020-21 hockey season. However, with the Ontario Government issuing yet another Stay-at-home order, effective through at least May 6th, there simply is no way of completing any kind of meaningful season.

The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League has officially cancelled their season.
The league had hoped to continue play but with the latest provincial stay-at-home order the GOJHL said in a statement that there was no way of completing a meaningful season.
The hope is to return in the fall.

The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) has announced the cancellation of its 2020-21 season. In a statement released Monday morning, the league said that due to the latest shutdown they are unable to hold any kind of season this year now that recreational facilities have been closed to the public. “There was never ending hope that we would be able to somehow manage a safe and responsible 2020-21 hockey season,” read the release. “There simply is no way of completing any kind of meaningful season.” There are currently 26 teams listed as part of the league, including the Kitchener-Waterloo Siskins, Ayr Centennials, Elmira Sugar Kings, Cambridge Redhawks, and Stratford Warriors.
The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League has a new commissioner.
Brent Garbutt comes to the GOJHL from Ontario University Athletics (OUA) as their Manager of Sport, while also currently working as a Video Coordinator in the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Situation Room.
He possesses extensive experience within the junior hockey and Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) landscape from his time with the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).
The GOJHL features local teams from Sarnia, London, Listowel, St.Marys and Stratford.
