Owens said SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits are a reason for the decrease. One thing, everybody that is eligible for food stamps has been allotted the maximum amount that they receive, she said.
Owens noted that people who were receiving less than $20 now get $400. That has had a significant effect on the services we provide, she said.
Stimulus payments have also helped people gain more access to food.
But Owens is wary. Sooner or later, the bottom s going to fall out, and the SNAP benefits are going to go back to what they were, I would guess, she said.
