An Entire School Moving Online Due to Possible Variant of Concern

The Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools says it is making the entire school move to online out of an abundance of caution after a positive COVID-19 case was identified at the school which is being investigated as a variant of concern. The Saskatchewan Health Authority is recommending all close contacts get tested. Also this weekend, officials from the Saskatchewan Health Authority informed the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division of a positive COVID-19 case in individuals at St. Joseph High School, Holy Cross High School, and St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic School. The case at St. Joseph is being investigated as a variant of concern (VOC), and the SHA recommends that all students and staff at that school get tested.

Individual at St Frances Cree Bilingual School tests positive for COVID-19

  SASKATOON An individual at St. Frances Cree Bilingual School on McPherson Avenue has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS). The school division said the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) notified it about the positive case on Saturday and is working to inform parents and caregivers. Risk of exposure is considered low for anyone not a close contact, GSCS said. The school division stressed the importance of continuing to follow COVID-19 protocols in order to decrease the spread of the infection in the community and in schools.  Related Stories

School divisions still waiting on province to implement rapid testing

Saskatoon / 650 CKOM Apr 16, 2021 5:52 AM School divisions across Saskatchewan continue to wait on the province for directions on what to do with rapid test stockpiles collecting dust. Nearly a month after saying it was sending roughly 100,000 rapid tests to school divisions across Saskatchewan, the province has made little progress to implement rapid tests. Education Minister Dustin Duncan said two companies have approached the province to provide third-party testers and more could still come forward, but couldn’t say when the province would be able to allocate workers to schools. “It’s coming along and we know that there is some interest from some school boards, and others are maybe not interested at this point,” Duncan said Thursday afternoon.

Positive COVID-19 cases found at two Saskatoon schools

  SASKATOON A positive COVID-19 case has been has been found in both St. Philip School and Bethlehem Catholic High School. The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) informed Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS) on Friday of the positive cases, the board said in a news release. GSCS is working with Public Health to notify parents and caregivers. Risk of exposure for anyone not considered a close contact remains low, the board said.
