THE NATIONAL PARKS and Wildlife Service (NPWS) are planning to restore bogs in the Wicklow Mountains to increase the water supply to the Greater Dublin Area (GDA).
A total of 60 hectares of blanket bogs are expected to be re-wetted by the NPWS, which is expected to increase water storage levels in parts of the River Liffey headwaters by between 50 to 90 million litres.
Impact of lockdown on housing output less than initially feared, says Goodbody Broker expects supply of new homes this year will be 21,000 - the same as last year
about 3 hours ago
The impact of lockdown on housing output has been less than expected, according to Goodbody Stockbrokers.
Using Building Energy Regulation (BER) data, the company estimates there were about 4,000 residential units completed in the first quarter of 2021.
This was 20 per cent down on the same period last year. However, the decline was less than what had been predicted and less than what occurred during the first lockdown last year.
As a result, Goodbody predicted house completions for the year would be about 21,000 units, the same as last year.

Plans for a Dart tunnel under Dublin have been knocking around in some form for almost 50 years. Periodically they are picked up and played with by the government of the day, but ultimately Dart underground has always been discarded in favour of less costly options.
Its day appeared to have come in 2005, when the number of zeros at the end of a bill seemed of little importance. Dart “interconnector”, as it was then known, was part of an expansion programme to bring the Dart to Drogheda, Celbridge and Maynooth, with a price tag of more than €4 billion.

23 land sales were completed in the first quarter of 2021, worth a total of €110m
New figures from property consultants CBRE Ireland show that 23 land sales were completed in the first quarter of 2021, worth a total of €110m.
The average quarterly transaction level in the Irish development land market over the last five years has been about €240m per quarter.
CBRE said this quarter s volume remains significantly behind previous quarters but represents a reasonable outturn given trading conditions and is a positive sign for the market.
Colin Richardson, a senior research analyst at CBRE, said today s figures represented a highly robust result for the opening quarter given the challenging trading conditions.
