Governor John Bel Edwards has signed a proclamation that Monday, March 22, 2021 will be Red Beans and Rice Day across the state of Louisiana. Three iconic local brands, Cajun Country Rice, Camellia Brand, and Savoie’s Foods team up to put red beans and rice on every table in the state to spread the love.
All three brands are partnering with Second Harvest and Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to make donations, based on purchases of Cajun Country Rice, Camellia Beans and Savoie s Smoked Andouille Sausage.
We are thrilled that Gov. Edwards has seen fit to help us shine a light on this iconic Louisiana food and its nearly 200-year history. We want to do our part to make sure as many people as possible can join in the meal on March 22 and beyond. - Freddie Lafleur, CEO of Savoie’s Foods

BATON ROUGE - As 2020 winds down, community outreach initiatives appear to be on the increase.
Charitable efforts across south Louisiana are ramping up in the final months of the year. For example, the Holiday Mobile Food Pantry, which is organized by the Jewel J. Newman Community Center, is hosting a Tuesday, Dec. 29 drive-thru food distribution event for college students at
2013 Central Road, in Baton Rouge.
Provided by the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis in the location s center parking lot.
Each college student will drive up to the event, present their college ID as proof of enrollment for Fall 2020 and receive one box of food per car.
