The Day - Jason Vincent remembered as visionary, champion, cheerleader for Norwich - News from southeastern Connecticut

Norwich  When Angela Adams sought advice a year ago on how best she could help local businesses as executive director of the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce, Jason Vincent offered a vision for her. Vincent at the time was co-chairman of the chamber’s economic development committee and vice president of the Norwich Community Development Corp. “He said I am the gatherer,” Adams recalled Wednesday of Vincent’s concept of both their roles. “I bring everyone into a room, and he’s the planner to help find solutions to the problems we have. That’s where he was such a big part. That’s where everyone relied on him.”

Local business owners concerned virus impact

NORWICH As 2020 comes to a close, many businesses are still struggling due to the pandemic, and they made their issues known on Tuesday. On Tuesday morning, the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce and the Norwich Community Development Corp. held their virtual legislative forum, when businesses had the opportunity to share their concerns with both local Democratic and Republican members of the state House and Senate. Rebecca Alberts, co-owner of These Guys Brewing in Norwich, told legislators and fellow business owners about her struggles during the pandemic. She said she, along with her co-owner husband Ray Alberts, haven’t taken a paycheck in four months, and have been using up their personal savings to keep the brewpub going. Even with their sacrifices, Rebecca Alberts said they had to let go 16 of the 24 employees they had prior to the pandemic.

Rose City BNI helps New London County Families

NORWICH - When the holidays come around, it gives plenty of people and organizations the chance to help others. The Rose City BNI, the local chapter of an international business networking organization, is no exception. In the ninth year of the Rose City BNI s annual Toy Drive, 14 families, including 32 children, will be receiving gifts. On Thursday night, members of the Rose City BNI sorted piles of toys and other gifts for the families in need, kept at The Solutions Center in Franklin. “We’re a business networking group, but this allows us to serve the community, which is really, really nice,” Dana Dowdell, secretary for the Rose City BNI, said.
