Two brownfield sites in Rochdale and Middleton have been given funding to be converted into housing sites, as part of the second phase of a £97m development fund.
An allocation of £7.44m to develop the two local sites – at the former Central Retail Park and the former British Vita site – was approved late last month at a meeting of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), as a total of £41m was approved for 21 brownfield sites across Greater Manchester.

In the aftermath of the 6.5 magnitude earthquake in Aceh, Indonesia, in 2016, disaster managers were able to able to identify which communities were at greatest risk due to rapid access to data. They used the open source InaSAFE platform to access real-time hazard data and modeled population data mapped down to the village level. This was made possible by the collaborative use of open data data that is free to use, open license and in machine-readable formats between scientists, local and national governments and communities. By using open data, disaster managers were able to develop 20 disaster contingency plans with communities.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 20 April
On Thursday 6 May residents across Greater Manchester will have their say on who represents them in the Greater Manchester Mayoral and local council elections.
In order to vote in these elections and in order to have their say on who makes important decisions affecting them, residents must be on the electoral register.
With the deadline to register to vote approaching, residents not already registered at their current address are urged to make sure they are registered in time.
