Three police officers THE rigours of policing the pandemic have left some Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers suffering from worrying levels of stress. The concerning trend is affecting forces nationally with a Police Federation of England and Wales finding nearly 80 per cent of officers have struggled with their mental health and wellbeing in the last year. Police federation bosses are threatening legal action over the government s decision not to give vaccine priority to officers.
The Greater Manchester Police Federation says 11.8 per cent of the workforce has tested positive for Covid-19 during the pandemic, compared with 6 per cent of the general UK population.
Two police officers THE Greater Manchester Police Federation has slammed the government for not prioritising officers in being given a coronavirus vaccine. The federation s health and safety lead Phil Thomasson says 1,335 officers and staff have tested positive for Covid-19 – 11.8 per cent of the workforce. In the UK around 4.2m have had the virus, approximately 6.2 per cent of the population, with Greater Manchester Police s (GMP) rate nearly twice as much. Labelling the vaccination programme as shameful and flawed , Mr Thomasson said: “For clarity, police officers have no desire to jump the queue. “We understand there are many people out there who would become very ill if they were to get infected.

Emotional images have been shared from the funeral of an irreplaceable Greater Manchester Police officer who died from Covid-19.
Jon Wain died on February 15, 2021, following a battle with coronavirus. The beloved dad-of-two had been working as a PC in Bury for 17 years and was popular among his colleagues.
The 49-year-old has left behind his partner, Gaynor, and two sons.
