Lansing nonprofits to feed families for the holidays Krystal Nurse, Lansing State Journal © Courtesy of Village Lansing Dekeea Quinney Davis collected frozen turkeys for a Thanksgiving donation, an initiative she, Erica King and Village Lansing saw success from. An increased need for food as winter begins  has Lansing area nonprofits setting aside food donations for families in need. Last year, 13.8% of Ingham County residents experienced food insecurity. This year it is 19%.  Primarily it’s because of the pandemic with people having job loss and students being home, there are children who are not receiving the meals they would receive, Michelle Lantz, chief executive officer of the Greater Lansing Food Bank.  We know it is hard for seniors to receive the foods they would need because they are a vulnerable population.

The Burcham Hill Festival of Lights

The countdown till Christmas is on! It s exactly one week away! Can you believe it? Where did the time go? Have you left the house to check out everyone s Christmas lights or have you been curled up on the couch missing out on all the holiday cheer? Well, it s time to get up and get yourself out that door and enjoy yourself. The Burcham Hill Festival of Lights is next week and today is the deadline it! It s Monday and Tuesday, December 21-22, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Burcham Hills is located at 2700 Burcham Dr., East Lansing. Are you tight on funds this holiday season? This drive-thru event is free! Enjoy 13,500 lights with your friends and family from the comfort of your car. There will be live holiday music, free hot chocolate and candy canes. And we can t forget our favorite jolly guy, Santa! Hand-bell musicians from Holland, Larry and Carla, will also be performing both nights.
