Food distributions
Calvin United Presbyterian Church, 307 Spring St., Brownsville is hosting its monthly food bank on Saturday, April 24, starting at 10 a.m.
First Presbyterian Church, 102 W Church Ave, Masontown is hosting a food distribution on Saturday, April 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 pm. Registration is not required for this additional event and it is available to everyone in the community. Food distribution will be curbside on Eddington Lane at the Church kitchen entrance. Cars should form a waiting line at the Masontown Elementary School entrance beginning at 10:45 am. Volunteers will places boxes in vehicles.
Volunteers needed
The Greater Washington County Food Bank, 900 National Pike W., Brownsville is seeking volunteers to load 15,000 boxes of food by June. Workers will be in groups of six to eight people. For more information, call 724-632-2190.
Diana Irey Vaughan knew Peg Wilson quite well and for quite a while. Irey Vaughan has been a Washington County commissioner since 1995, about the time Wilson became involved with the Greater Washington County Food Bank.
They worked together on a number of initiatives, and fostered a mutual respect that endures with the commissioners chair.
âPeg cared very deeply about her community,â Irey Vaughan said Thursday afternoon. âShe worked very hard in her mission to eliminate food insecurity and built a great number of partnerships.â
Margaret Jean Wilson, 91, board president of the Centerville-based food bank, died on Sunday at Premier Washington Health Center. She also was a longtime political figure, serving on state and county Democratic committees, including time on the latterâs executive board.

For folks in Westmoreland and Washington counties, that soon will be a reality when Helltown Brewing and Ohio nonprofit Helping Hops partner to release “Hellping Hops.”
A portion of sales from the 6.5% ABV New England-style India pale ale will be split between the Westmoreland County Food Bank and the Greater Washington County Food Bank.
“I believe $1.50 from every draft sale in our taprooms will go to the food banks,” said Scott Strain, Helltown’s director of marketing and social media. “And then $1 from each four-pack sale, and $6 from a whole case will also go to the food banks.”
