As the clock strikes 10 a.m., tiny tots from in and around Adarsh Nagar troop into the Anganwadi centre in their locality.
However, their enthusiasm for the day is short-lived as they start feeling hot and stuffy within minutes. The reason? None of the ceiling fans work.
“It’s not that the ceiling fans are out of order. We can’t turn them on as there is no electricity connection to the school,” said V. Padma, who has been working at the Anganwadi centre located in Ward 17 of Zone III for the past 12 years.

With just a day to go for the first council meet and the election of Mayor and the Deputy Mayor, the new council hall in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) office is being decked up for the occasion. The authorities are giving final touches to the new hall by fixing mikes to the corporator seats, checking electricity connections, painting works, flooring for the Mayor rooms and a few others here on Friday.

Now that the YSR Congress Party has romped home by winning 58 of the 98 wards in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation polls, the party senior leaders are busy finalising the candidate for the Mayor post.
The candidate’s name will be announced by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, said Anakapalle MLA Gudivada Amarnath.
The post is a prestigious one and all options including caste equations and personal qualities are being weighed. The election of Mayor is scheduled on March 17.

Amaravati, March 14 : Andhra Pradesh s ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) is heading for a clean sweep in urban local body election as counting of votes was underway on Sunday in 11 municipal corporations and 70 municipalities.
The YSCRCP was leading in most of the divisions in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) which went to polls on March 10.
In the 90-member Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, the biggest among the state corporations, YSRCP won 27 divisions out of 44 results declared till 2 p.m. The principal opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) won 14 divisions while the Jana Sena Party (JSP) of actor-politician Pawan Kalyan was distant third with just one seat.
