Forsyth County gets big grant to create jobs at Smith Reynolds Airport in Winston-Salem

But that s not the only economic development initiative taking place at the airport in northeastern Winston-Salem: Forsyth Technical Community College is nearing completion on a 53,000-square-foot aviation technology lab near the airport that will provide skilled workforce training for aviation technicians and mechanics. And a bill filed in the N.C. General Assembly would appropriate $30 million to the airport, money that can be used toward projects including new maintenance and repair hangars and taxiways. Those new maintenance hangars could in turn generate more jobs. And, in an effort not directly connected with the airport, Forsyth County is also supporting a chamber of commerce effort to bring drone testing and research here.

$5 million to expand Williams Adult Care Center proposed in N C House bill

Bipartisan legislation introduced Monday by the Forsyth County House delegation would provide $5 million to expand arts and wellness services at the Elizabeth and Tab Williams Adult Care Center. House Bill 593 would provide Senior Services Inc. with $3 million from the 2021-22 state budget and an additional $2 million from the 2022-23 budget. The Williams center services local residents who are living with Alzheimer s and other forms of dementia. The goal is building a new and expanded center that will bring health, wellness, arts and intergenerational program partners under one roof. The dedicated space would go from 10,000 to 15,000 square feet. The current center is at 2895 Shorefair Drive in Winston-Salem. The new building would be on the same campus.
