A partnership of Wairarapa farmers is a part of a growing wetland restoration movement to build community resilience against flooding, drought, landslides and water pollution.
Since 2016, the partnership has been proactively fencing off stock, planting native plants and trapping pest animals to restore wetlands and surrounding areas on Hapua farm. However, restoration work began over a decade ago.

Wellington’s pipes are at breaking point. Cracks, leaks, and bursts are spilling sewage and water on to city streets and into the harbour. In the last week, a “very highly critical” wastewater pipe ruptured, spilling sewage across two central city streets, and a main burst, sending an enormous fountain 20 metres into the air and flooding Aro St. Last summer a major pipe in upper Willis St collapsed due to corrosion, sending 12 million litres of sewage into Wellington Harbour over three days and blocking the road for months.
