SPOKANE, Wash. More and more of our neighbors in Spokane started out somewhere else. The Lilac City is among the most popular places in the nation to start fresh- but not everyone is happy about that.
Spokane had a hot housing market before the pandemic, and when COVID hit, it only added fuel to the fire. People are headed to smaller towns, and Spokane is near the top of that list.
According to the National Realtor’s Association, Spokane is in the top ten of all cities everywhere. Depending on how you look at it, this could great for Spokane, or not.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. Construction is underway right now on the new Amazon distribution center that’s set to open later this year, bringing more opportunities for economic recovery from the pandemic.
Once construction’s complete, the center will be over a million square feet and specialize in large-item distribution of items such as patio furniture, pet food and outdoor activity equipment. That means if you order these items, you’ll get them quicker when the site opens. Many people are still struggling with unemployment, and local business leaders say this will kickstart the Valley’s economic recovery.

Spokane County and Greater Spokane will distribute more personal protective equipment to small businesses and non-profits Tuesday at the Fairgrounds.
Cara Coon from Greater Spokane says the county bought these supplies for businesses earlier this year with federal CARES Act dollars.
On Tuesday, she says, they’ll hand out boxes filled with supplies such as hand sanitizer and facial coverings.
“We do know that they continue to need both disposable and cloth masks. We do know that they need gloves, which we do have on order. Those have been, throughout this, pretty difficult to get. Those are on their way. We likely will have another distribution event in January that will include gloves. This one won’t, she said.
