Campaigning ends for municipal elections in Telangana

Hyderabad, April 27 : Campaigning came to an end on Tuesday in seven urban local bodies in Telangana going to polls on April 30 amid the surge in Covid cases.
Leaders of various political parties addressed rallies, conducted road shows and went door to door in a last-minute bid to woo the voters.
Campaigning ended 72 hours before the polling as the State Election Commission curtailed the canvassing period in view of Covid situation.
The state poll panel, however, is going ahead with the elections despite demands by the opposition parties to postpone them due to ongoing second wave of the pandemic.

New Delhi: Coronavirus infection is not going to stop. Meanwhile, the Telangana government has announced the imposition of a night curfew on Tuesday. The curfew will continue from 9 pm to 5 am. The order has been issued by state government chief secretary Somesh Kumar. He has said the night curfew will come into effect from the night of April 20 and will continue till April 30.
Earlier, the High Court had given a two-day ultimatum to the Telangana government to decide whether to impose lockdown in the state. The high court had said, within 48 hours, the government will have to decide on lockdown or curfew, issue court orders to others . The court issued several more directions and sought a full report from the Telangana government on the situation in the state.
