Huge albums that only reached Number 1 in Ireland

Most of the biggest musicians in the world have enjoyed the sweet smell of success that comes with hitting Number 1, but they ve more often than not also had a whiff of disappointment when they ve just missed out on the top spot. In some cases, an album can be a big seller across the globe, but only top the charts in one territory, which has happened in Ireland on occasion. Following on from our previous look at big albums that only reached Number 1 on Irish soil from the likes of P!nk and Bruce Springsteen, here are 9 more albums that only reached the big time on the Official Irish Albums Chart.

Celeste on course for Number 1 with debut album Not Your Muse

01 February 2021 Share with: Celeste is heading for Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with her debut album Not Your Muse. The 2020 BRITs Rising Star Award and BBC Sound Of… winner has a lead of 8,000 chart sales as of today (Feb. 1)’s Official Chart Update having racked up the most physical and digital sales this past weekend. If Celeste can hold onto her momentum, she will follow in the footsteps of fellow BRITs Rising Star (previously BRITs Critics’ Choice) winners to have Number 1 debut albums such as Adele, Ellie Goulding, Sam Fender and Rag’n’Bone Man. Number 2 at the midweek stage of the week is art-rock musician Steven Wilson with his sixth studio album The Future Bites. The Porcupine Tree lead vocalist is on track for an Official Albums Chart personal best having previously reached Number 3 with 2017 album To The Bone.

Bring Me The Horizon score their second Number 1 album with Post Human: Survival Horror

29 January 2021 Share with: Bring Me The Horizon leapfrog midweek leaders Bicep in a last-minute sprint to Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with their latest EP Post Human: Survival Horror. Following its release on physical formats, Bring Me The Horizon hit a brand-new peak following its Number 5 debut last October, this marks the band’s second chart topping album, exactly two years after 2019’s Amo debuted at Number 1. 92% of the record’s chart sales this week were physical purchases. BMTH’s success comes following an extremely close race against Northern Irish electronic act Bicep, whose second album Isles enters at Number 2 after leading at the midweek point by just 103 chart sales.

Bicep and Bring Me The Horizon battle for Number 1 album

Just 103 chart sales separate the Northern Irish electronic duo and Sheffield rock giants on today’s Official Chart Update, with this week’s race for the top spot sure to go down to the wire. The second studio album from Bicep – aka Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar – Isles has scored the most downloads over the weekend and is the most-streamed new release of the week so far, putting the pair well on their way to a new personal best on the Official Chart this week. The pair’s self-titled debut album peaked at Number 20 in September 2017.

You Me At Six s Suckapunch debuts at Number 1 - Music News

22 January 2021 Share with: You Me At Six have gone straight to Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart with SUCKAPUNCH. The band’s seventh studio album is now their second Number 1, following 2014’s Cavalier Youth, and sixth Top 10 collection overall. In an OfficialCharts.com video reaction clip, singer Josh Franceschi celebrates: “Thank you to our fans, you guys are incredible. Without you we wouldn’t be here after 15 years. The band’s front man continues with a message for the detractors: “Maybe most importantly, thank you to everyone who has caused us pain or wrote us off or said we were done. This is for you. We made this record for you, to remind you to put some respect on the name.”
