LANSING – Those eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine should take whichever of the three options is available to them, Ingham County’s top health official advised.
The first shipments of the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine arrived in Michigan this week, bolstering the state s supply of vaccine doses by more than 80,000.
But state and local health officials said all three vaccines Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, and Pfizer are equally effective, and advised against seeking out a particular brand.
“This is not a time to be picky about which vaccine (you receive),” Health Officer Linda Vail said.
Ingham County is home to 290,000 people, and there’s a long way to go before everyone is vaccinated, she added.

Michigan will soon allow residents 50 to 64 years old to sign up for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment.
The eligibility expansion announced Wednesday, March 3, was welcomed by some providers who say they’ve gotten through the majority of the previously eligible population who have requested a vaccine, and didn’t want to slow down vaccinations in the coming weeks.

Nearly a thousand health care workers in Ingham County are getting Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine every week.
Health Officer Linda Vail says so far, the state has provided her department with 975 doses of vaccine a week. They’re getting an extra dose out of some vials.
She says the staff and the schedule would allow for more. “We did ask for the double, 1,950 doses this week, and didn’t get it, Vail adds, but we will be asking again, and I’ve also made a few phone calls.”
Vail says the department is vaccinating 350 or more people per day, and could double or triple that if they had enough vaccine.
