Emalea Cogdill, Account Representative with Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin, said there is always a need for blood donation no matter what, the demand never changes. We are always in need of donors because we can t make human blood. The only way we can receive blood for patients in our community hospitals is through donations that come from our blood donors, said Cogdill.

AHN Grove City Hospital Partners with Superior Ambulance to Study More Rapid Use of Antibiotics to Prevent Infections from Open Fractures

AHN Grove City Hospital and Superior Ambulance have joined forces to participate in a pilot study exploring the rapid use of antibiotics by emergency medical professionals to prevent infections from open, or compound bone fractures. Such fractures are characterized by an open wound or break in the skin near the site of the broken bone, where  infections often develop.   As part of the study protocol,  EMS providers will administer antibiotics as close as possible to the time of the injury to reduce the risk of infection, optimally within the first hour. The risk of infection increases relative to the amount of time it takes for a  a patient to receive an antibiotic; the longer the delay, the higher the risk.

Roanoke police create new detection unit to address rising gang violence Aggravated assaults related to gun violence have nearly doubled this year Tags:  ROANOKE, Va – As crime continues to rise in Roanoke, a new unit in the police department is working to lower violence and bridge the gap in the community. Roughly 80% of gun-related incidents in Roanoke have been connected to gang violence, so the police department underwent a realignment to create a new gang detection unit. “It calls for an unconventional and nontraditional response from our law enforcement which includes building a collaborative effort with our prosecutors with our federal partners with our communities to ensure that together, we’re doing everything we possibly can to combat some of the violence,” Roanoke Police Chief Sam Roman said.
