Stocks Slide, Tobacco Shares Feel The Heat 04/20/21 AT 12:13 PM Stock markets slid Tuesday, with Wall Street continuing to retreat from record highs, while shares in tobacco firms plunged on reports the US will crack down on cigarette nicotine levels. While both the Dow and the S&P 500 finished last week at new peaks and also posted their fourth consecutive weekly gains, this week has seen shares slide as the earnings season enters its second week. It seems like investors might be having a bit of a second thought up here as US earnings season starts to heat up and peak optimism is beginning to set in, said Stephen Innes of Axi.

Winston and Davidoff cigarette-maker Imperial Brands shrugged off any concern.  Stock Watch - Warpaint  Warpaint London shares shot up after sales surged and Tesco put in a chunky Christmas order for its products. The make-up group said that as well as having a better-than-expected first quarter to March – with sales up compared with the same three months of last year – it also had a strong end to 2020. Its W7 line is being rolled out at US store chain Five Below and it has benefited from using Amazon’s shipping services. Shares jumped 15.7 per cent, or 17p, to 125p.   The potential nicotine-cutting policy ‘is not new, having been discussed in the US for a number of years’, it said, and added that pursuing it could take several more years ‘with an outcome that would be difficult to predict’.
