Even as fresh cases in the city keep posting grim new records, deaths due to the infection have also shot up dramatically. On Friday, the city reported 141 Covid-19 deaths in 24 hours, its highest single day toll. The weekend curfew aimed at breaking the Covid-19 infection chain means that unless you have a valid emergency or you fall in an exempted category, you can’t step out of your house till 5am on Monday. The curfew came into effect at 10pm on Friday. This weekend, the Delhi Metro network will have 1,600 train trips per day as against nearly 5,000 daily trips on a usual weekend. With only people exempted from the weekend curfew allowed to travel by the Metro or other modes of public transport, the trains will be available at a frequency of 15 minutes across most of the network. Having starred in Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Lakshya’, Karan Johar’s ‘Kaal’, and UTV’s ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’, Punjabi’s death on December 26 saw a muted New Year for many of his fans and friends.
