Linda Lou McLarning of Centralia, Mo., went home to be with the Lord on January 6, 2021. Linda’s passing was peaceful and her family was at her bedside. Her last days were filled with music, scripture, family, and messages from friends, all pillars of her life well lived. Linda was born to Arthur and Carolyn (Eicksteadt) Twigg on December 30, 1941, in Rockford, Ill. and she had just celebrated her 79th birthday. Linda and her brother, George, were raised by their grandparents in Garden Prairie, Ill. in a home shared by many aunts, uncles, and cousins over the years. Times were lean but love and family ties ran deep, they still do.

CLEVELAND – Members of a rural White County church said they are hopeful the person(s) who vandalized their facilities will find God.
Deputies responded to Antioch Baptist Church, 390 Antioch Cemetery Road, about 5:30 p.m. Monday for a reported burglary.
“The suspect(s) vandalized the church, causing substantial damage,” said White County Sheriff’s Capt. Clay Hammond.
Paul Payne, a deacon at the church located off U.S. 129 north of Cleveland, said the damage to the church building is considerable.

As is my annual ritual, my year-end column pays tribute to Alabama political legends who have passed away during the year.
Sonny Cauthen passed away in Montgomery at age 70. He was the ultimate inside man in Alabama politics. Sonny was a lobbyist before lobbying was a business. He kept his cards close to his vest, and you never knew what he was doing. Sonny was the ultimate optimist who knew what needed to be achieved and found like-minded allies with whom to work. When he had something to get done, he bulldozed ahead and achieved his mission. Sonny was a yellow dog Democrat who believed in equal treatment and rewarding hard work. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and mentored a good many young men in Montgomery.
