Visva-Bharati VC cites threat, seeks central security from PM | India News

SANTINIKETAN: Visva-Bharati vice-chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarty has written to PM Narendra Modi, the chancellor, seeking central security, claiming that he and his family were facing a threat. University sources said the letter was sent on March 24, a day after TMC’s Birbhum chief Anubrata Mondal allegedly issued a threat to Chakrabarty at a public meeting. In the letter, the vice-chancellor quoted Mondal as saying, “I will teach you (Chakrabarty) a lesson, which you will never forget in your life”. Mondal could not be reached for comment. Chakrabarty is currently provided an armed guard by the West Bengal government. Mondal’s relationship with the vice-chancellor soured following incidents related to the university’s attempt to raise a boundary wall. The Centre is yet to respond on the issue. Visva-Bharati PRO Anirban Sarkar did not answer phone calls nor did he reply to messages from this newspaper.
