With the new year, gardeners are always awaiting what s new in plants. Seed and plant catalogs begin arriving in the mail. For many, it heralds anticipation to spring. The National Garden Bureau shares some information from All-America Selections to announce four new and exciting AAS (All-America Selections) Winners for this 2021 garden season. Winners are trialed throughout North America by professional, independent volunteer judges who grow new, never-before-sold entries next to comparisons that are considered best-in-class.
Here are some of those entries that had superior garden performance better than the comparisons and are granted the AAS award designation:
All-America Selection just released its winners for your 2021 garden!
Three flowers and three vegetables were tried and found to be superior to a close comparison variety. While each of the vegetables was bred for edibility, they are also all visually appealing and would have great impact in a landscape.
Celosia Kelos Candela Pink
One AAS judge referred to this plant as the “Energizer Bunny” of blooms for its season long endurance of flowers! This celosia has long, hot pink blooms that would make a wonderful addition to a combination planter as the “filler” or to the back of a flower border. In addition to being a vibrant bedding plant, these flowers also dry beautifully!

The organization asked participants to show their creativity by highlighting garden entrances. North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Boswort called the award a testament to the Parks Department team including Commissioner of Parks and Recreation Arnyce Foster-Hernandez, Town Horticulturist Bonnie Klein, and the staff working at Clark Botanic Garden. All-America Selections is an independent non-profit organization that tests new and never-before-sold varieties for the home gardener. They work to promote new garden varieties and recognize superior garden performances.
