CAA dilemma for BJP as it eyes both Bengal and Assam
The BJP is trying to do a balancing act in West Bengal and Assam over the CAA, which is an emotive issue in both the states. In Bengal, the BJP says it will try implementing the CAA soon but in Assam it treads cautiously.

West Bengal and Assam will go to assembly polls next year around the same time in April-May next year. In both the states, the BJP has high stakes. In Assam, the BJP is seeking a return to power for the second consecutive time. In Bengal, the BJP is expecting to defeat Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee s Trinamool Congress in 2021 polls. And, in both the states the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is an emotive issue.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has removed its MLA Ajanta Neog from an important post of the party s organisation, two days after she met chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and North-East Democratic Alliance convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The move came amid speculations that the four-time MLA from Golaghat constituency and former state minister may join the BJP.
Neog was removed from the post of district Congress committee president of Golaghat with immediate effect, according to an order issued by the party s state unit on Friday night. This has the approval of All India Congress Committee, the two-line order said without giving any reason for the action.

The girl hailing from Assam’s Barpeta district had recently joined East West College in Bengaluru for a course in nursing and the family members of the victim said her admission was done through a youth named Anisur Rahman, also from Assam.
