Guwahati: To avoid “possible horse-trading by the BJP”, the Congress and its ally AIUDF on Friday sent at least 22 of their candidates in the just held Assembly polls to Congress-ruled Rajasthan in a chartered plane, party sources said.
The leaders of the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) unofficially told the media that so far 22 candidates of the two parties have been sent to Jaipur and they are now lodged in a private hotel there. “More candidates of the Congress and the AIUDF would be dispatched in the coming days as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party might try for horse-trading after the declaration of the results (on May 2) to remain in power,” a Congress leader said in Guwahati on condition o

GUWAHATI: In an apparent bid to thwart possible horse-trading by the ruling BJP, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Friday sent as many as 17 of its candidates of the recently-concluded Assembly elections to Rajasthan.
The AIUDF candidates are currently staying in a hotel at Ajmer in the Congress-ruled Rajasthan. The results of the keenly-contested Assam Assembly elections will be declared on May 2. The AIUDF is part of the Congress-led grand alliance formed before the Assembly elections to prevent the ruling BJP from coming to power for the second time in the State.

Opposition alliance trying to stay visible by creating confusion, he said
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the 10-party Mahajot or grand alliance betrayed signs of frustration by packing some of its candidates off to Rajasthan, citing possible horse-trading by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He was reacting to the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Congress flying out at least 20 of their candidates to Jaipur in a chartered flight on Friday. The Congress and AIUDF are constituents of the Mahajot.

Assam’s three-phase polling took place on March 27,
April 1 and 6, but for the Opposition parties in the state, three-leg elections imply voting dates, counting day and a tricky government formation process. In the Congress’ internal assessment, Assam is heading for a change. But there is a caveat. Even the most enthusiastic Congress leader in Assam is not sure of a clear or decisive mandate for the Mahajot, a 10-party alliance consisting of Maulana Badruddin Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Jimochayan (Deori) People’s Party (JDPP), Adivasi National Party (ANP), CPM, CPI, CPI (ML), Anchalik Gana Morcha, Bodoland People’s Party (BPF) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
