GUWAHATI: The Congress-led Mahajoot (Grand Alliance) will come to power in Assam and a CMP (Common Minimum Programme) will be finalized after formation of the government, claimed CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist) national general secretary Sitaram Yechury while addressing a press conference at the State office of CPI (M) at Hedayetpur here on Sunday morning.

Battleground Assam: Key constituencies to look out for in the last phase

Guwahati (Assam) [India], April 5 (ANI): Assam is all set to go into the last phase of polling on Tuesday. This phase will decide the fate of 337 candidates across 40 constituencies of 12 districts in the state, including the senior minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Hemanta Biswa Sarma in the Jalukbari constituency.
There are a total of 12 female candidates and 325 male candidates in the fray, whose fates will be decided by 79,19,641 general electors in the third phase. Of these, 40,11,539 are males, 39,07,963 females and 139 are other genders. There are also 24,460 are service voters.

A bridge to be India’s longest has become an unusual issue in a polarised part of Assam often synonymous with “illegal immigrants”.
Electoral politics in Assam since the 1970s has invariably been spun around the narrative of ‘Bangladeshis’ threatening to take over the State. Western Assam’s Dhubri district, from which South Salmara-Mankachar district was carved out in 2016, has been the peg of this storyline.

Voting will be held across 475 seats in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry on April 6, Tuesday, the busiest day of the ongoing election season. The polling will take place in a single phase in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry while Assam will witness its third and final round of voting. This will be Bengal s third round in the eight-phase election ending April 29.Â
Tamil Nadu will have a contest for 234 seats, Kerala for 140 seats, Assam for 40 constituencies, Bengal for 31 seats, and Puducherry for all 30 seats. Apart from assembly elections, two Lok Sabha seats â Malappuram and Kanyakumari â will also vote on the same day.
