Unions to protest on May Day, demand free universal vaccination Unions to protest on May Day, demand free universal vaccination NEW DELHI, Apr 28: A joint platform of 10 central trade unions on Wednesday decided to press the government for free universal vaccination, Rs 7,500 per month cash transfer for poor families and free 10 kg ration for them, among others, during the pandemic. The unions will also protest against the “anti-worker, anti-farmer, anti-people policies” of the government on May Day (Saturday), stated a statement by the joint platform. The joint platform has written a letter to the Prime Minister regarding their demands. The trade unions deplore the “callous attitude” of the government in handling the COVID-19 crisis, the statement said.

Express News Service BENGALURU: Climate activist Disha Ravi’s parents were “extremely emotionally distraught” after a Delhi court remanded her to judicial custody for three days on Friday. “Her parents thought that on the completion of Disha’s five days in police custody, she would be released and she could return home. They are laypersons and don’t understand the difference between police and judicial custody. Their anxiety has only heightened after she was remanded to judicial custody,” said Disha’s family friend and advocate R Prasanna. Her arrest in the farmers’ protest toolkit case has sent shock waves and led to angry reactions from activists, students, human rights organisations among others. Prasanna said that he was expecting that the court would send Disha to judicial custody, given the “nature of the offence she has been charged with, the gravity of the situation and the hype that has been created around it”.

Three trade union office-bearers were detained in the wake of nationwide chakka jam called by the protesting farmers, the police said on Saturday. The three persons who were detained are All India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC) Delhi State Secretary, Manager Chaurasia, Delhi Centre of Indian Trade Union’s north district vice-president Vipin and All India Federation of Trade Union’s National Treasurer and Delhi president Animesh Das.
