AAP tries to achieve national party status

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal had said last month that his party would fight all elections in the next two years in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. All these states have Assembly polls in 2022 and, barring Punjab, are ruled by the BJP. The renewed national ambition after a drubbing in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, when the AAP had contested 432 seats including Kejriwal unsuccessfully fighting Narendra Modi, is now poised to bear fruit. The AAP is trying to achieve national party status that entitles an outfit to use its symbol in any election across India and secure a place in public consultations at all levels of government.

Image Source: IANS News Gandhinagar, March 1 : There was an average of around 64% polling in the local body elections for municipalities, district and tehsil panchayats in Gujarat on Sunday. Voting for 8,473 seats in municipalities, 980 in district panchayats and 4,773 in taluka panchayats took place across 36,008 booths. The counting of votes will take place on March 2. According to the State Election Commission (SEC), around 64 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the elections to Gujarat s 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka panchayats which were held in a largely peaceful manner.
