Bengaluru: Investigations into the recent violence at the Wistron’s iPhone manufacturing plant are on and a report was likely in a couple of days, Karnataka Labour Minister Shivaram Hebbar said on Wednesday even as he expressed hope about the factory restarting soon, with the Centre also involved in addressing issues.
Asserting that the government was there to protect the interest of the labourers, the minister, however, said such incidents may have an adverse impact on investment and job creation prospects in the state.

New Delhi: A local president of the Students Federation of India (SFI) was detained in connection with the violence that took place at the Wistron s iPhone manufacturing plant early Saturday morning.
Comrade Srikanth, who is a taluk president of SFI in Kolar, was picked after the BJP MP S Muniswamy of claimed that the SFI was behind the violence.

Bengaluru: Labour federation All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has said rights of workforce was violated at the Wistron facility in Narasapura near Bengaluru, where employees went on rampage destroying the assembly unit that makes iPhones and other products.
The Wistron plant in Karnataka will be operational again in 15-20 days, State Labour Minister A S Hebbar told Business Standard on Wednesday. “There is no clarity on whether the lapses in payments happened from the contractors’ side or the company’s side. Investigation is on and will be concluded soon,” said Hebbar. Taking note of the violence the Centre on Wednesday asked the state government to complete an inquiry into the incident at the earliest. “The secretary of Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade spoke to senior officers of the Karnataka government, advising them to complete the inquiry at the earliest, identify the culprits, look into wages and labour-related matters there, and also ensure that investor sentiment is not affected due to this one-off incident,” said a DPIIT statement.
