A joint forum of ten central trade unions on Thursday gave a call to observe Black Day for Indian Democracy on May 26 by weaning black badges and putting up black flags to press the government for their demands on May 26.
Their demands include free vaccination for all, free ration and Rs 7,500 per month for the poor, repealing three farm laws and minimum support price for crops and withdrawal of four labour codes passed by Parliament last year. These codes are not implemented so far because rules under those are yet to be notified.

No one will be denied benefits for want of Aadhaar, say Labour Secretary
The Ministry of Labour and Employment will soon start collecting the Aadhaar details of workers in the unorganised sector for implementation of future social security schemes, though no one will be denied benefits for the lack of Aadhaar, Labour Secretary Apurva Chandra said on Wednesday.
The Ministry on Monday notified Section 142 of the Code on Social Security, 2020, which enables the government to collect Aadhaar data of workers for its national database of unorganised workers. The Code itself is yet to be implemented as the Rules framed under it have not been notified. Once implemented, the Code will allow social security benefits to be extended to the large unorganised sector, the government has said.
The AITUC demanded the central government convene the long overdue Indian Labour Conference immediately and discuss threadbare the necessity of the proposed labour law changes with the trade unions and employers.
‘May Day’ was centrally observed under the banner of Assam State committee of AITUC (All India Trade Union Congress) at Abhiram House here on Saturday.
