REACTION: Ailish dedicates first Leitrim appearance and win to her late mother Reporter: );   ); Sunday’s Lidl Ladies NFL Division 4 3-14 to 3-6 victory over Louth was a big statement but for new Leitrim recruit Ailish Cornyn, the victory carried extra significance as the former Cavan All-Ireland winner dedicated the victory to her late mother Margie. A member of the St Francis club, Ailish has been a regular sight on the playing fields of Leitrim for many years but played all her inter-county football with Cavan, winning the All-Ireland Intermediate title in 2013 with the Breffni Blues. Ailish had finished up with Cavan two years ago but a promise to her mother Margie, who sadly passed away last November, meant Ailish started a new chapter in her footballing career last Sunday in Ballinamore.

Last year s winners Down, who entertain Ciaran Cunnningham s side the league this weekend, will take part in the senior championship this season. The 12 teams will be divided across three groups, each of four teams with two of the group winners progressing directly into the semi-finals.  The third group winner plus those placed second in each group will go into the quarter-finals a week earlier. There will also be relegation from the Intermediate championship between the teams placed fourth in each group.

The Offaly senior champions had been training in the expectation that the championships would proceed when Covid-19 restrictions allowed it. However, they were stunned when news came through earlier this week that the competitions have been cancelled in the wake of a national poll among clubs.
