2021 UL Softball Preview: The Outfielders
This is the final part of a four-part series previewing the 2021 Louisiana Ragin Cajun Softball Team.
Today; the outfield.
The outfield looks to be strong against this season, with the ability to provide power, speed, and defense.
Ciara Bryan, a transfer from Georgia, who was tabbed a first-team Preseason All-American by D1Softball, will be a fixture in the UL outfield this season.
A left-handed hitter, Bryan hit .330 in three seasons with Georgia, to go along with 14 home runs and 78 runs batted in, while also accumulating 33 stolen bases.
Bryan, who has one season of eligibility remaining, started 22 games in centerfield for Georgia last season, while starting in right-field in another six games.
2021 UL Softball Preview: The Catchers
Today; the catchers.
Catcher looks to be in good hands as Julie Rawls, a First Team All-Sun Belt Conference and All-Louisiana selection in 2019, as well as a preseason All-Sun Belt Conference pick this year, who can also play the outfield, returns for her third season with Louisiana.
A senior from Hallsville, Texas, Rawls was outstanding in her first season with Louisiana in 2019, after transferring from Northwestern St., hitting .360, to go along with 10 home runs and 49 runs batted in.
Those numbers were good enough to land Rawls first-team All-Sun Belt Conference, first-team All-Louisiana, and second-team NFCA All-Central Region honors.

New York Giants head coach Joe Judge is reportedly in the process of hiring University of Louisiana-Lafayette offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Rob Sale to be the Giants new offensive line coach.
Under Sale’s watch, the Ragin’ Cajuns had two offensive linemen, Robert Hunt and Kevin Dotson, selected by the Dolphins and Steelers respectively in the NFL draft. Sale had six offensive players earn All-Sun Belt Conference honors, and five players claim All-Louisiana honors.
Former UL Star Shawn Long Has Monster Game
A former Louisiana Ragin Cajun basketball star recently had a career night at the professional level.
Shawn Long, who played for Louisiana from 2013-2016, scored 43 points to help his Korean Basketball League team, Hyundai Mobis Phoebus, to a 92-88 win over the Sonic Boom on Wednesday.
The 43-point performance by Long is the highest individual scoring output by a single player in the Korean Basketball League this season and ranks as the most points in a single game in Long s professional career.
Long went 14-of-24 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the three-point arc, and 13-of-16 from the free-throw line, while also pulling down 14 rebounds.
A former Louisiana Ragin Cajun star will begin the 2021 NFL season with the same organization that he began his professional career with in 2020.
Receiver Ja Marcus Bradley, who played for Louisiana for four seasons (2016-2019), was signed to a Reserve/Futures contract by the Cleveland Browns on Monday.
Players who sign reserve/futures contracts will officially join the respective rosters of the team they signed with when the new league year begins on March 17 and cannot be signed by any other organization.
The Browns signed Bradley, who helped the Cajuns to 11 wins last season in 2019, a school record, as an undrafted free agent back in May.
