Calls for county funding reform
Cork county is receiving nowhere near its fair share of Government funding according to a new independent report published this week.
The report was carried out by the All Island Research Observatory (AIRO) in Maynooth University and suggests that county Cork’s size and population, in comparison to other local authorities, is not being factored into the allocation of central government funding.
Director of Services, Municipal District Operations and Rural Development Niall Healy brought the report before Cork County Council on Monday.
Covid-19 rates in Newbridge area nearly double the national average

Three towns in County Kildare had Covid-19 infection rates which were above the national average, according to the latest data.
The local electoral areas (LEA) of Newbridge, Kildare town and Maynooth have higher case numbers per head of population than most other areas around the country over a two week period.
The rate per 100,000 of the population nationwide was
201.2 cases for the two week period up to March 1.
Newbridge had 128 cases or a rate per 100,000 of the population of 360.7 - almost double the national average.
High levels
330.7 per 100,000 population.
Minister Harris launches National Gender Equality resource for Higher Education Institutions
Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris TD has today marked International Women’s Day by launching the National Gender Equality Dashboard for Higher Education Institutions.
The dashboard, developed by Maynooth University, provides an invaluable resource on gender equality in Higher Education Institutions.
The figures show a healthy gender split between female (51%) and male (49%) among staff in our higher education institutions (HEIs). However, there is a significant level of under-representation of female staff at the highest decision-making levels in Irish universities (26%).
