Women who boldly fight for what they believe in have been rightly described as Amazons. In the past, kingdoms in which such women stood as any man would stand benefitted immensely from their bravery. The more of such women we have in Nigeria the better for us. So I pay attention to the activities of the few that we have. Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, wife of the late leader of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, is one of them. I read an interview she granted following the latest memorial lecture in honour of her husband, and thereafter concluded that my high opinion of this woman wasn’t misplaced. Nigeria needs fearless women like her.

Two members of the House of Representatives, Hon. Datti Yako, from Kano State and Danjuma Shittu from Taraba State, Tuesday defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While Yako left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shittu left the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
In their defection letters, which was read by the Speaker of the House, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the lawmakers cited leadership crises and factionalization in their respective states as reasons for leaving the parties upon which they were elected.
Reacting, the Minority Leader, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu urged Gbajabiamila to declare their seats vacant, citing relevant sections of the constitution and the fact that he was not aware of any crisis in the party.
The lawmakers made their decision known in separate letters read by the speaker, on Tuesday, during plenary.
The lawmakers, Datti Yako from Kano State and Danjuma Shittu from Taraba State, both based their reasons for dumping their political parties on leadership crises.
While Mr Yako left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Shittu left the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
Mr Yako particularly cited incessant leadership crises in the PDP at the Kano State chapter.
He had defeated the former chairperson of the House Appropriations committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin, during a rerun election ordered by the Court of Appeal in Kaduna last year.
