Mr Olumide Metilelu, the returning officer, Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), on Saturday declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of chairmanship election in Ikorodu Local Government (LG).
According to Metilelu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Hassan Rafiu, had a total of 1497 votes, while Mr Wasiu Adesina of APC had 4729 votes.
Adesina was declared the winner of the chairmanship election in Ikorodu LG by the returning officer.
“Having complied with the requirement of the law and scored the majority number of votes, Wasiu Adesina is hereby declared elected and returned as chairman of Ikorodu LG,“ he said.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State has reacted to the low turnout that characterized the Saturday’s local government election in the State.
PDP said the voter apathy that greeted the election was an indication that the people of Ogun State are now tired of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s government.
Speaking in an interview with DAILY POST, the PDP Publicity Secretary in Ogun, Akinloye Bankole, maintained that the people of Ogun State felt disenfranchised by the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), accusing the electoral umpire of “limiting the scope of choice available to the people.”

LAGOS State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called for increased advocacy for citizens’ participation in local government election, saying it is the only time the people can freely exercise their franchise.
Speaking with newsmen after casting his vote alongside his wife, Ibijoke, the governor, who acknowledged the low voter turnout at the election, said government would continue to sensitise the citizenry on the importance of council election. The governor said yesterday’s election offered Lagosians the opportunity to exercise their franchise by voting their preferred candidates.
“This is the only time we can express ourselves freely. It is a question of the encouragement and advocacy that we need to continue to give to our citizens. “All the logistics have been provided. It is just for our people to come out and exercise their franchise. We will continue to improve on the advocacy,” the governor said.
