A long-standing supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, Saliu Mustapha, has been named Turaki of Ilorin.
The Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, conferred Mustapha, founder of Saliu Mustapha Foundation and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with the title on Thursday.
The Turaki title was previously held by the Sarakis.
The late Olusola Saraki once held the title before he was elevated to the position of a Waziri.
His son, and a former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, stepped into the father’s shoes between 2006 and 2018.
The Younger Saraki was later turbaned as the Waziri, succeeding his father for the second time.

According to a statement by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesperson, Buhari spoke when he received some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his country home in Daura, Katsina state.
Buhari was quoted as saying it would be unfortunate to mislead the electorate with “lies and personal bias”, noting the need to put the interest of the country beyond other considerations.
“For the time remaining, and for those who have one more term in office based on the provision of the constitution, the elections are important to the parties,” Buhari was quoted to have said.

“Intellectuals and historians should be fair to us so that those who are looking for leadership positions will not exploit the political ignorance or lack of knowledge of the people.”

The political fortunes of the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has been badly battered over the years because of the internal crisis within the fold. The party wants to use tomorrow’s local government elections in the state as a dress rehearsal to prepare for the next general elections. The party executives are struggling to manage the aspirations of different interests within the chapter, to prevent them from undermining its chances in the election.
The court had vacated the suit, saying Chikwendu had no locus standi to institute the legal action.
The party, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Ogubundu Nwadike, said since the report, it had been inundated with inquiries on the status of the suit.
The PDP explained that its suit before the Supreme Court was the petition by Chief Philip Umeadi (SAN), joined by the PDP.
The party said, “The PDP in Imo State hereby clarifies that the legal matter is still on, in which the party seeks the Supreme Court to enforce its judgement on the status of the actual candidate of the APC in the 2019 Imo governorship election, and consequently the illegitimate occupation of the Office of the Governor of Imo State by the APC.
President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday in Daura, Katsina State, urged historians and intellectuals to be factual in keeping the record of the administration, especially in guiding the electorate to make the right choice of leadership for the country.
The President made the statement when he received not fewer than 12 governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his country home, Daura, Katsina State where he spent the Eid-el-Kabir Sallah holiday.
