On INEC’s list, Charles Soludo, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was replaced with Michael Umeoji as the standard-bearer for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had no candidate.
INEC had said the decision on Soludo and Umeoji was based on a court order, but the campaign group for the former CBN governor had insisted that its aspirant would contest the election as the APGA candidate.
(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Former Governor of the Central Bank, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has said that despite not being listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), he will still be taking part in the governorship contest in Anambra State.
INEC had published Hon Chuma Umeoji as a candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in place of Soludo due to a court order.
Reacting, Soludo stated that he will not only contest the election but will win overwhelmingly.
He disclosed this in a press statement made available to the press in Awka by Soludo Campaign Organisation and signed by Soludo’s media aide, Joe Anatune.

Citing obedience to court rulings, the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), yesterday dropped Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the unveiled list of candidates for the November 6 Governorship Election in Anambra State.
Meanwhile, APGA, in a swift reaction, protested the INEC decision, alleging that the commission was substituting its duly elected governorship candidate with that of an “impostor, who is desperate to embarrass the party”, even as Soludo boasted that despite not being listed by INEC, he was sure of taking part in the governorship contest in the state, and that he stands to win overwhelmingly.

Some politicians in Anambra State have expressed mixed reactions to the governorship candidates’ list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Friday.
The list came as a surprise to many as prominent names including that of Chukwuma Soludo and Valentine Ozigbo who were expected to contest on the platforms of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were missing.
While Chukwuma Umeoji was listed for APGA, that of PDP had no candidate on the list.
