Speed reductions in Swan Hill CBD
The speed limit has been reduced to 40km/h in some areas of the Swan Hill CBD.
Swan Hill Rural City Council Director Engineering, Svetla Petkova said the reduction in speed followed recommendations from the Department of Transport in response to recently installed dining pods throughout areas of the Swan Hill CBD.
“The dining pod program is a way for us to extend outdoor dining options, while social distancing and COVID-19 restrictions on the hospitality industry continue to be in place,” she said.
Ms Petkova said dining pods are the re-purposing of parking bays outside a hospitality business, in the interest of increasing footpath trading and providing a safe, socially distanced environment for patrons.

“It’s been wonderful to see more people shopping and dining out locally and taking advantage of the free car park,” she said.
“It has been well received by locals and visitors alike,” she added.
Ms Green said Council is delighted to now be extending free parking for residents and visitors to the region in the Curlewis Street car park, at all times until Easter.

Australia Day celebrations take on a different look
Swan Hill Rural City Council’s Australia Day celebrations will look a bit different this year, due to current COVID-19 restrictions.
Mayor Bill Moar said that outdoor gatherings are currently being limited to 100 people meaning that Swan Hill’s Australia Day breakfast would not be going ahead.
“Unfortunately, the Australia Day breakfast has been cancelled due to the current COVID-19 restrictions in place at this time, including limitations on the number of people at events,” Cr Moar said.
“There will still be an Australia Day celebration, but on a smaller scale,” he said.
