Consultation on Tauranga draft Long-term Plan 2021-31 open

The Tauranga City Council said in a written statement the city faced major challenges because of historical under-investment, contributing to problems such as traffic congestion, a housing shortage, and overburdened or inadequate community facilities. The proposals are outlined in the draft Long-term Plan 2021-31, which set out a budget and work plan for the coming decade. The six priorities are: Community spaces and places - $672m. Replacing old facilities and building new ones to serve the city s growing population. Examples include pools, sports halls, sports fields and libraries Transport - $1.9b. Helping people move around the city more easily and improving connections for local businesses

That was the message that came from a Tauranga City Council meeting today in which commission chairwoman Anne Tolley and fellow commissioners Bill Wasley, Shadrach Rolleston, and Stephen Selwood adopted a draft Long-Term Plan 2021 to 2031.

Photo / File Tauranga residents believe the city is now a worse place to live than last year, a survey has revealed. And industry and community leaders aren t surprised that growing traffic congestion and frustration towards Tauranga City Council were the main reasons residents were unhappy. The results were revealed by the Quality of Life Survey, which canvassed residents under eight New Zealand councils Tauranga, Auckland, Hamilton, Porirua, Wellington, Hutt City, Christchurch and Dunedin.
