Requiring faculty, staff, and trainees to be vaccinated against COVID-19

Dear Members of the Yale Community,
For more than a year, we have anticipated the day we can return fully to on-campus teaching and learning. With improving public health conditions, we are optimistic that we can do so for the fall semester. As we plan for this exciting transition back to campus, our top priority will continue to be the health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and individuals with whom we interact outside of our campus.
A high percentage of vaccine coverage is critical for a safe return to in-person university operations. Therefore,
Dear Members of the Yale Community,
I write with profound sadness to share the news that David Swensen, Yale’s chief investment officer, died yesterday evening after a long and courageous battle with cancer. David served our university with distinction. He was an exceptional colleague, a dear friend, and a beloved mentor to many in our community. Future generations will benefit from his dedication, brilliance, and generosity.
After receiving his Ph.D. in economics from Yale in 1980, David worked for Salomon Brothers and Lehman Brothers before returning to Yale in 1985 to lead our investments office. With his guidance, Yale’s endowment yielded returns that established him as a legend among institutional investors. Over the years, he lectured in Yale College and the School of Management. On Monday, he and long-time friend and colleague Dean Takahashi taught the last class of the term for Investment Analysis, a seminar they co-instructed for thirty-five years. David was an incorpo
Today’s verdict on the murder of George Floyd
Date:
Dear Members of the Yale Community,
George Floyd’s murder was an indictment of our nation’s failure to address anti-Black violence and racism, but today’s verdict was a positive step forward for our country. I am relieved that a jury of Derek Chauvin’s peers found him guilty of George Floyd’s murder, but I am no less heartbroken over the number of Black lives that have been cut short due to police violence. We must continue to focus our energy on addressing racism, injustice, and abuse of power by the police and others in positions of public trust and authority.

Thoughts on today’s events in Washington, DC
Date:
Dear Members of the Yale Community,
Today in the United States Capitol, as senators and representatives were carrying out the constitutional process of certifying the winner of the presidential election, a mob used violence and menace to disrupt this most basic functioning of our democracy. The acts of the rioters were disgraceful; they demonstrated a fundamental disrespect for, and attempted subversion of, a cherished American institution. They put lawmakers, staffers, and many others in danger.
My feelings of shock and distress over today’s spectacle on Capitol Hill align with those of Yale College alumnus George W. Bush, ’68. Earlier today, he stated, “I am appalled by the reckless behavior of some political leaders since the election and by the lack of respect shown today for our institutions, our traditions, and our law enforcement.” He went on to warn, “Insurrection could do grave damage to our Nation and repu
