Girl (11) left with scars after nasty attack by farmer s dog

A farmer in Co Antrim has been fined £500 after his collie dog attacked and bit an 11-year-old girl. Drew Strange (61), of Tildarg Road near Ballyclare, pleaded guilty to being in charge of the animal involved in the incident, which happened on July 22, 2019. Yesterday, Ballymena Magistrates Court was told that at around 7.30pm the girl was walking with her friend - the defendant s daughter - towards the Strange farm. A collie-type dog ran at her and jumped on her causing her to fall backwards. The animal then bit her on the left arm, and as she ran away, prosecution lawyer Cathy Grant said, the dog bit her on her left buttock.
